• Visiting each store: you get that store's exact price, but it is slow, and the cheapest seller is usually the one you didn't visit.
• Searching one big marketplace: many sellers on one page, but only that marketplace's sellers; independent stores and listings are left out.
• Price-list sites: a list of many stores for one product, but each row is a copy that may be out of date, and telling the right model from look-alikes is up to you.

Six things a good price comparison site must get right

• Read the price off the seller's own page. The figure on a price list is a copy of the seller's price; when we checked one price-list site, the seller's own page disagreed with the listed figure on about a third of offers.
• Tell the right model apart. A phone with 8 or 12 GB of RAM, 128 or 256 GB of storage, registered or unregistered, sells at different prices, and they all sit side by side in one list.
• Drop accessories. Search for a phone and its cases and screen protectors become the cheapest rows.
• Flag outlier prices. One page states its price in rial and another in toman, and a figure that is off by ten looks like the cheapest.
• Show the date of every price. A price that hasn't been updated for a month is not today's price.
• Show where the seller is. If you want to buy in person, or shipping matters to you, the seller's city matters.
